Welcome to OMG5C's Technology Exploratory class wiki! We are off to a great start of our 3rd quarter exploratory. We've reunited with Type to Learn 4, created autobiographical collages with the Pic Collage app on the ipads, shared what we wish to learn this quarter using the web 2.0 tool Wallwisher and now we are designing our class wiki so that we can share our experiences. We each voted on a wiki name, which is how we came up with OMG5C. It's a little sassy but very catchy. Then, we created a wiki logo by voting again. (We are all about the voting using an online voting tool, Polldaddy.)

Pretty nice, huh? Tomorrow we start learning how to use iMovie. Since we will be taking a trip to Savannah, we will be creating video tour guides to Savannah. This will help us learn about the sites that we will be visiting.

Learning how to use iMovie was exciting! We were able to learn hands-on because Mrs. Brown projected herself using iMovie on the Smartboard while we were able to practice from our laptops. This made the learning process go smoothly and allowed us to ask relevant questions in real-time. For a taste of some of the "tricks" we learned in iMovie, check out our list here:
*How to import images
*How to import sound and music into our movies
*How to include transitions between slides
*How to add text
*How to include scrolling credits
*How to create backgrounds
*How to search the Internet for images safely and without violating copyright
*How to copy and paste links for our citations
*How to edit slides
*How to change the pace of our slides
*How to safely conduct research online and critically evaluate websites
and so much more!

These digital tour guides will add such value to our upcoming field trip to Savannah. We truly are experts on the sites and landmarks that we will be exploring. We will get to experience being face to face tour guides as a result of our digital presentations. For a look at our Digital Tour Guides to Savannah, see them below:

We spent several days learning about Internet Safety, Media Literacy, and Digital Citizenship. We had interesting discussions as well as time to ask important questions about these serious topics. We will continue exploring these topics throughout the year.

To end the quarter, we learned the programming language Scratch. Programming will increasingly become an important literacy as jobs in programming and a demand for this skill continue to grow. Scratch is a non-intimidating introduction to basic programming that encourages logical thinking, attention to detail and creativity.
